XCVIII

  Beneath him Cadiz and the strait he spied,

  Where whilom good Alcides closed the way;

  From the Atlantic to the further side

  Of Egypt, bent o'er Africa, to stray;

  The famous Balearic isles descried,

  And Ivica, that in his passage lay;

  Toward Arzilla then he turned the rein,

  Above the sea that severs it from Spain.
